I dag var Thomas (Ulriks kollega), Ulrik og jeg på golfbanen - det var min anden runde som golfspiller og foregik på en 9-hullers par 3 bane.
De første 5 huller gik som man kunne forvente - jeg fik samlet 4 point. Mine medspillere coachede og fortalte om, da de spillede deres første runder - altså meget forstående og motiverende.
Ved 6. hul stødte jeg ind i min først golf-milepæl (altså siden jeg i påsken første gang slog til en golfbold). Jeg erkendte pludselig behovet for en tee, og det undrer nok ikke jer der spiller golf, men det gjorde en forskel. Faktisk så stor en forskel at jeg gik 6.-hul i par, 7.-hul i par, så en bogie på 8.-hul og afsluttede runden med en dobbelt-bogie…altså 17 point på de sidste 4 huller og nogle måbende medspillere.

Vi benyttede den lange weekend i forbindelse med Labour day til at tage på en lidt længere udflugt op langs kysten til San Francisco.
Allerede torsdag aften kørte vi fra Los Angeles, så vi havde god tid fredag til at køre op langs kysten til Carmel. PCH (Pacific Coast Highway) eller Highway 1 er den vej der ligger langs stillehavet fra Los Angeles til San Francisco. Vi havde glædet os til at køre langs stillehavet i convertible i højt solskin, men måtte desværre acceptere den noget mere overskyede version.

Et sted i Big Sur går der en meget hemmelig lille vej ned til Pfeiffer Beach - en meget fin lille strand.

Fredag aften overnattede vi i Carmel, en rigtig hyggelig turist by, som tilfældigvis er der hvor Pebble Beach (en af verden mest kendte golfbaner) ligger. Golfbanen ligger på en strækning i og omkring Carmel, der kaldes 17-mile-drive, så vi var naturligvis turen rundt lørdag formiddag.
Som nyudsprunget golfentusiast fik jeg købt mig en Pebble Beach kasket. Og tilfældigvis (og denne gang var det et tilfælde…) var der en turnering, så vi så Tom Watson slå ud fra første tee-sted - jeg er dog ikke så meget golfentusiast endnu, at jeg selv spottede ham - men han er herren i den sandfarvede trøje.
Lørdag eftermiddag ankom vi til San Francisco. Lidt research hjemmefra resulterede i at vi kunne tilbringe 2 nætter på Hilton midt i San Francisco. Hotellet lå lige omkring Union Square, så vi nåede lige at gå lidt rundt i midtbyen inden vi skulle spise på en rigtig god japanske restaurant.
Søndag begav vi os ud på 49-mile-scenic drive - en rute der på bedste vis præsenterer San Francisco.
Jeg sidder vist og sover lidt med Alcatras i baggrunden
Søndag eftermiddag gik vi gennem Chinatown til North Beach - det italienske kvarter, hvor vi spiste aftensmad. Mandag kørte vi hjem efter en dejlig frokost ved Ferry Building.

Jeg ved ikke helt hvordan det foregår, når andre lærer at spille golf, men i mit tilfælde - tror jeg - at det sker med nogenlunde samme niveau af opmærksomhed, som da jeg tog de første spæde skridt. Udviklingen, der følges nøje fra mange steder i verden og af såvel golf interesserede som uinteresserede, sker absolut ikke tilfældigt. Der optages film, de evalueres, der findes forbedringspukter, de afprøves, der optages film, de sammenlignes med tidligere…
…men det virker, jeg bliver stille og roligt bedre - og mere og mere motiveret. Så jeg sætter pris på min træners store tålmodighed og grundighed, selvom han i virkeligheden bare vil have mig hooked - han har jo nok gennemskuet at det er vejen til at tilbringe samtlige weekender på golfbanen. Af respekt for min træners ihærdighed vil jeg derfor løbende rapportere om fremgangen i mit golfspil.
