Juleferien gik til Lake Tahoe til skisportsstedet Heavenly. Heavenly byen ligger på grænsen mellem Californien og Nevada, så hvis man er heldig kan man vinde hele ferien tilbage i Black Jack - det var vi ikke…;-).
Vi havde liftkort til 7 ud af de 9 dage, vi var i Heavenly, så på grund af det lidt dårlige skivejr valgte vi at holde 3. og 4. dagen skifri for at vente på lidt mere sne. Så vi var i stedet på en lille hike i skoven ved resortet.
Heldigvis kom der lidt mere sne, så resten af dagene fik vi stået på ski og udsigten over Lake Tahoe var helt fantastisk.
Juleaften så vi traditionen tro Disney show (dog på dvd), fik en lidt utraditionel julemenu på hotellets restaurant og åbnede julegaver. Juledag havde vi reserveret bord til julemiddagen på hotellet - så efter en god dag på ski (alle amerikanerne pakkede jo gaver ud) fik vi en helt traditionel amerikansk julemenu med stegt kalkun, stuffing, tranbær, yams og mashed potatoes.

…er 4 stater, 3 nationalparker og et par casinoer på 4 dage.
Torsdag kørte vi (min mor, Henning, Anja, Ulrik & jeg) fra Los Angeles til Willams, hvor vi overnattede på Route 66. Fredag var vi ved Grand Canyon. Lørdag kørte vi til Bryce Canyon og derefter gennem Zion nationalpark på vejen mod Las Vegas. Det lyder måske lidt voldsomt, men der var så stor variation mellem naturen i de forskellige nationalparker, at det havde været svært at fravælge noget af det. Men vi var godt mætte af naturoplevelser - og Bellagio-brunchen - da vi søndag kørte tilbage til Los Angeles.
Grand Canyon er imponerende fordi det er vildt stort, og der er meget meget langt ned til bunden - tror jeg - vi gik kun et stykke ned, da vi jo havde et stramt program for resten af weekenden.
Lørdag morgen kørte vi til Bryce Canyon, som klart var min favorit. Klippeformationerne var helt eventyragtige, og på afstand lignede det næsten eventyrslotte.
…eller tegneseriefigurer - det er vist kun fantasien der sætter begrænsningen.
Lørdag eftermiddag kørte vi gennem Zion nationalpark, og det gik pludseligt op for os, at der var blevet efterår - det er ikke det man tænker mest over i 25 graders varme.

Wednesday, October 4th, 2006
Den sidste weekend i september tog vi til Boston for at besøge Poul sammen med Michael og Jens.
Fredag aften tog vi red-eye flyet fra LA så vi ankom i Boston tidligt lørdag morgen.
Lørdag eftermiddag var vi en tur på Sam Adams bryggeriet dvs. rundvisning og ikke mindst smagsprøver. Derefter tog vi til BBQ i Pouls have med alle hans kolleger fra MIT.
Da vi var blevet friske igen søndag (dvs. henad eftermiddagen) tog vi på Museum of Science, hvor særudstillingen var Body World - en meget omtalt udstilling hvor rigtige menneskekroppe er udstillet…var personligt meget godt tilfreds med jeg ikke havde tømmermænd.
Mandag viste Poul os rundt i Boston, og derefter var vi en tur på MIT for at se hvor han arbejder.
Tirsdag inden vi tog flyet tilbage til LA, var vi en tur forbi Harvard.
